Jind: A young man who went swimming with friends on his birthday drowned in a canal near Khokhri village on Wednesday. As soon as information about the incident was received, numerous villagers, along with the police, arrived at the spot and started a search, but there was no trace of the drowned youth. Later, the villagers blocked the Jind-Kaithal road. When the sarpanch got the news of the jam, he reached the spot and assured the villagers to stop the water from the canal and recover it soon. After that, after half an hour, the villagers opened the jam.

Aryan, 18, a resident of Kandela village, had reached the canal near Khokhri village on Wednesday on his birthday along with half a dozen of his friends. Aryan drowned in the canal while taking a bath in the afternoon. Villagers reached the site after friends made noise. Later, family members from the Youth and Sadar Police Stations also reached the site. The villagers conducted a search operation in a distant canal, but could not find Aryan’s clue. Later, the villagers blocked the Jind-Kaithal road. Which, after being assured by the sarpanch, was opened half an hour later. At the same time, divers were called by the police and lowered into the channel to search. Sanjay Kumar, head of Sadar Police Station, said a search was conducted in the sewer but no trace of the youth was found. The canal water has receded, the search is ongoing.
