Weather update for Haryana:Due to heavy rains, the Haryana government has issued a warning to the general public. The Meteorological Office has expressed the possibility of rain until Wednesday. The government is appealing to the population not to leave the house unless it is necessary. Policies have also been issued to close schools when necessary due to rain. NDRF/SDRF was summoned to deal with any kind of situation. The government has made specific arrangements for food and drink for people affected by the rains. The general public can contact the flood hotline 1070, 1077, 112, 0172-2545938 (landline number) with problems of all kinds.

The Prime Minister held an emergency meeting regarding the situation due to the ongoing rains. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Sanjeev Kaushal, Chief Secretary to Prime Minister DS Dhesi, Chief Secretary V Umashankar and all administration officials. He lectured all deputy district commissioners via video conference, saying that ordinary people should not face any problems and should take extra care.

The CM issued special instructions to the Deputy Commissioners of Ambala, Panchkula and Yamunanagar districts, saying that people should not be allowed to go near the rivers. The water levels of Yamuna, Ghaggar and other small rivers are continuously rising as due to the ongoing rains in Himachal Pradesh, the water in the rivers is continuously increasing. Therefore, make sure that the lower lying areas are cleared. The water is also flowing at full capacity in the Narwana branch and in SYL. Therefore, the Deputy District Commissioner should keep an eye on it. He also instructed to have sacks filled with soil in sacks ready so that erosion in rivers or drains can be brought under immediate control. Directing all of the county’s assistant commissioners, he said that the state had received much more rainfall than average. As this happens, Deputy Commissioners should keep a close eye on every situation in their respective districts. If an area is filled with water, then in addition to rescuing people, make sure you provide food packages and health facilities to the people.

The Prime Minister informed Deputy Commissioner Kurukshetra that landslides were reported from some corners of the Pehowa-Ambala road. So keep an eye on the situation and prevent soil erosion. In addition, he asked the Deputy Commissioner of Panchkula to solve the problems people were facing due to the collapse of the bridge on the Pinjore-Baddi road and to coordinate with Himachal authorities to arrange another route.

Rivers in Ambala in flood

At the meeting, the Ambala Deputy Commissioner said that 493mm of rain had fallen in the last three days so far, causing more water to flow into the rivers. The water level of the Ghaggar River is 16,500 cusec while the current flow is 21,000 cusec. The water level of the Tangri River is also currently 21,000 Cusec instead of the natural 13,000 Cusec. Apart from that, the water level of the Markanda River, the safe zone, is 50,000 cusecs and now there is only 50,000 cusecs of water. If there is a chance of rain, the water may backflow into the Ambala Drain, posing a risk of waterlogging in the city. The administration has therefore made extensive preparations. Rescue of people from low-lying areas has begun and provisions have also been made for food. It was announced in the villages that people should not go near the rivers. The district administration is prepared for every situation. An Army contingent was also stationed at the Narvana Branch. At the meeting, PK Das, chairman of Electricity Corporations, said there was no electricity in some areas of Ambala City and Ambala Cantt. The authorities concerned were given instructions to supply these areas with electricity from other sources.

The waters of the Ghaggar River reached the danger level and the lower areas were evacuated

The Deputy Commissioner of Panchkula said that Panchkula district has received much more rainfall than average. The areas bordering the Ghaggar River have been evacuated. The water of the River Ghaggar has reached the danger level. The Deputy Commissioner of Kurukshetra informed that in 1978 the Markanda River measured a water column of 256.4 meters while currently it has a water depth of 255 meters. In view of the possibility of further rain, the lower-lying areas were evacuated. In addition, taking into account the water level of the Yamuna River in Yamunanagar, the process of evacuating the areas has also been initiated.

The National Highway-152 Ambala-Hisar road is completely closed

On the other hand, due to heavy rains in Ambala district, National Highway-152 Ambala-Hisar road was completely closed for public safety reasons. Do not currently use the Ambala to Ludhiana National Highway-44 as the Ambala to Ludhiana National Highway-44 will be impacted due to heavy rainfall.
