The Haryana government has intensified measures to improve the water supply and sanitation system in the state. The Public Health Engineering Department will spend Rs 1,443.74 crore on water supply and Rs 283.62 crore on sewerage in the state.

Giving information on this, the government spokesperson said that the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation 2.0 (AMRUT2.0) was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 1, 2021. The aim of the project is to ensure a comprehensive supply of domestic water with tap connections, the coverage and renewal of sewage/wastewater management in 500 AMRUT cities in the country, and the development of water bodies and green spaces.

He informed that the Government of Haryana has handed over the responsibility of implementing AMRUT2.0 to the Public Health Engineering Department to reap the benefits of this program. The ministry had sent 48 water supply projects worth Rs 1,443.74 crore for 57 cities and sanitation projects worth Rs 283.62 crore for 9 cities to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, India. It is a joy for the state that the apex committee constituted under the scheme has approved all these projects. An amount of Rs 140 crore was also released as the first installment of the central share to Haryana for carrying out water supply and sanitation works in 50 cities. Internal departmental measures will soon be taken for the second tranche so that water supply and wastewater management in the target cities can be improved. He said that this quick action by the department will definitely be a step forward in improving the water supply and sanitation system in Haryana.
