Fatehabad: Government procurement of PR rice varieties started today. This time, Food Corporation of India (FCI) will not purchase paddy while Food and Supply, HAFED, Haryana Agro and Haryana Warehousing Corporation will purchase paddy in all mandis of the district as per the prescribed schedule. Since there was not enough rice arriving at the Fatehabad grain markets, procurement could not be done on the first day. This time, the minimum support price for paddy has been fixed at Rs 2,203 per quintal. The procurement agency purchases rice with moisture content up to 17 percent.

The state government usually begins public procurement of rice from October 1st. This time, considering the change in weather, the food and supplies department had decided to start rice purchasing from September 25. Only a few wagons of rice arrived at the Fatehabad grain market due to which the procurement authorities did not reach here on the first day. However, farmers say the goods go directly to the rice mills. The government is procuring PR rice varieties whose MSP is Rs 2,203 per quintal. Before that, however, 1509 rice arrives, which is purchased from private millers. This time the prices are around Rs 3,800 per quintal. This time, rice will not be procured by the Food Corporation of India in the state.

Paddy is purchased by Food and Supply, HAFED, Haryana Agro and Haryana Warehousing Corporation. A fixed schedule has been created for this in all markets. This time rice will be purchased from 7 grain markets and 38 procurement centers in Fatehabad district. As per the orders issued by the Food and Supplies Department Headquarters, the procurement authorities will purchase only rice with moisture content of 17 percent. Rice with more moisture is not bought. Let us tell you that this time around one lakh hectares of land in the district was inundated by floodwaters, thereby delaying sowing here. Rice has now been planted on 1,000,000 hectares of land in the district. Due to the adverse weather, rice production is estimated to be significantly lower than in previous years.

Registration is required to sell plants

The market committee will issue access cards only to those farmers who are registered on the Meri Fasal Mera Byora portal. Procurement agencies purchase rice only through commission agents, but payment for the rice goes directly to the farmer’s account. The rice amount will be paid to farmers within 72 hours.

DC appointed SDM as nodal officer for paddy procurement

Regarding paddy procurement, Deputy Commissioner Ajay Singh Tomar held a meeting with procurement agencies and representatives of the marketing committee on Monday and gave necessary instructions. The deputy commissioner said that only the crops of farmers registered on the Meri Fasal Mera Byora portal will be purchased at the support price set by the government. In order to smooth procurement of paddy crops, the concerned SDMs will be nodal officers in their respective areas. He said that farmers should not face any problems at the grain markets and procurement centers for purchasing crops.
