One youth was killed and two youths were seriously injured in a road accident on Bakrid near Rahanwali village in Tohana area of Fatehabad district on Thursday. All three youngsters are originally from Bihar. On Thursday, all three were cycling after celebrating Eid in Tohana when they crashed near the resident. A dump truck ran over a young man, killing him instantly. Crowds gathered there after the accident and the injured were taken to Tohana Government Hospital for treatment, from where they were referred when their condition became critical. The narrowness of the canal bridge is suspected to be the main cause of the accident.
The late 45-year-old Aslam’s maternal uncle Shambhu said that he lives in the Kishanganj area of Bihar and came to Myond Kalan today to plant rice in the fields. Today all the Tohanas had gone to Idgah to celebrate Eid. In the afternoon, Aslam, Sonu and Alam were returning to Mayond after celebrating Eid on bicycles when an accident occurred on the canal bridge near Rahanwali. He said it was raining and the bridge was very narrow. As the bike reached the bridge, he braked when he saw a dump truck coming from the front, and the bike skidded. In the accident, two youths fell on the road towards the guardrail, while Aslam fell on the side of the dump truck on the road, whereupon the dump truck’s wheels went over him and he died on the spot, while the other two sustained serious injuries. After the accident, both injured were taken to Tohana hospital and from there transferred to Agroha. The deceased was a father of five girls and lived in the area for three months.
Villagers Sukhvindra and Shivjit Singh etc. narrated that this bridge is very narrow. If a large vehicle drives through here, not even a bicycle can pass. Now it has become narrower due to the installation of railings. If the bridge had been wide, this tragic accident might not have happened today.
