Kurukshetra: Former Prime Minister and opposition leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda visited the flood-affected areas. They reached the Kurukshetra villages of Narkatari, Thol, Durala, Jhansa, Tiba, Udarsi, Jheevedi, Hansala, Khedi Markanda, Hingokhedi and Shahabad by tractor and on foot. After speaking to the people, he got to know their problems and after speaking to the officials, he gave directions for a quick solution. After that he observed the condition of the farms and residential areas from Kurukshetra to Shahabad and on to Ambala.

Bhupendra Hooda said waterlogging has taken on terrible forms. To deal with this, the government must act on a war basis. The state government should push the relief efforts with the help of the center, NDRF and the army as much as possible so that people’s lives and property can be protected. If the government had taken precautionary measures in time, people could have been rescued from this terrible situation. But the government did not convene a meeting of the Flood Control Committee, nor did it ensure that drains, sewers and drains were cleaned ahead of the rainy season. If the government had discharged its responsibilities in a timely manner, farmers’ crops, shopkeepers’ shops, and people’s homes could have been largely saved from ruin. However, the government should not show complacency or laxity now. Whatever resources need to be mobilized for drainage, they should be made available as soon as possible. At the same time, compensation for the population should be announced after the damage caused by the floods has been assessed.

He recalled that the state had already faced flooding in 1995/96. Even then, the government granted compensation to compensate for the damage that the population had suffered. Again, thousands of hectares of agricultural land were destroyed by flooding, many people’s homes collapsed or cracked, and shopkeepers’ shops were flooded. All these sections should be adequately compensated. He again urged congressional staff to reach out to flood-affected areas and help people. In this time of disaster, every able-bodied person should show initiative in the relief and rescue work. He said that today the Satyagraha silent fasting program was organized by the party in Kurukshetra. Congress conducted satyagraha against the government conspiracy against Rahul Gandhi. But suddenly, given the flood situation in the state, the silent fasting program was postponed. When the situation normalizes, Congress will set its next date.
