Haryana: Former chief minister and opposition leader Bhupendra Singh Hooda has once again cornered the government, saying the government should soon start buying paddy and lift the ban imposed on its export. The arrival of paddy in the mandis has started but as government procurement has not started yet, farmers cannot get MSP. Farmers are forced to sell their crops at prices below MSP. First due to the flood and now due to government delays, farmers are facing losses.

He said that BJP and JJP are unable to provide MSP or compensation to farmers. The government is making false paper claims that are unfortunate and ridiculous. For example, the government has now announced that an incentive amount of Rs 7,000 will be given to the farmer who cultivates paddy after the flood damage. The government should know that this is not the season to grow rice. Rather, the rice field is ripe and has started to enter the market. Even though farmers were affected by floods and wanted to claim compensation, there was no insurance company at that time. The government had not notified the insurance companies until then. Likewise, BJP-JJP keep rubbing salt on the wounds of farmers.

He said rice was exported during the Congress tenure. Because of this, the farmers of the country and the state received higher interest on their crops. Often, paddy plants were sold at higher prices than parmal MSP and basmati at Rs 5,000 to 6,000 per quintal. Farmers made huge profits through exports. But the current central government has limited farmers’ potential profits by banning rice exports. The Haryana government is not even standing up for the farmers before the Centre.
