A delegation of the Delhi Taxi & Tourist Transporters Association on Monday protested against the corruption in the name of panic buttons by the Delhi Government and its Transport Department to India’s Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai. Rai) submitted the memorandum. Sanjay Samrat, president of the organization said that the delegation told Union Minister Rai that for years the Transport Department of Delhi has been charging Rs 17,500 to Rs 36,000 at the time of registration of vehicles in the name of panic button from Delhi’s taxi and bus drivers. And at the time of fitness, he has been charging up to 8-22 thousand rupees. For this, the Transport Department has made a panel of private companies. It is a strict rule that without this panic button, no taxi or bus can be registered in Delhi, nor can those vehicles be fitted.

Commented on Panic Button

We told through a memorandum that these panic buttons are actually panic buttons in name only, rather they are plastic buttons of Rs.5. By pressing this panic button, any woman can call the police in case of trouble or emergency. But the truth is that till now neither the Delhi Government nor the Transport Department of Delhi has made any call center for this panic button, nor does this panic button work. The organization told Rai that in a way the Transport Department of the Delhi Government has openly taken crores of rupees from the taxi and bus drivers, which is a big scam. The organization has also written to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot regarding this scam. But till date no action has been taken, even today looting is happening openly in the name of panic button. He said that Union Minister Rai has heard the whole matter and assured that the matter will be taken into consideration as far as possible.
