There has been an uproar on social media regarding the arrest of a female TV reporter by the Punjab Police. Along with the Punjab Police, the Aam Aadmi Party government is also being targeted with different tags. It is alleged that the woman journalist has been falsely implicated in the SC/ST Act. After the growing uproar on social media, AAP’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh presented his side on behalf of the party.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh wrote in a tweet that a journalist of a BJP TV channel ran over a Dalit woman in Punjab and hurled casteist abuses at her. He alleged that BJP has always been anti-Dalit. The Punjab government should take strict action against such anti-Dalit people. He further wrote in the tweet that the Punjab court prima facie found that TV reporter guilty and sent him to custody till May 19. Sanjay Singh also targeted those who questioned the arrest of the journalist. Referring to the BJP, he asked whether they did not trust the court.

Mixed reactions on social media

There are mixed reactions on social media regarding the arrest of the woman journalist. Users opposing the arrest claim that no female police personnel were present at the time when the female journalist was arrested. Also, the BJP alleges that the sting against Arvind Kejriwal has been avenged in this way. BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga said that the Punjab Police arrested the woman journalist for exposing Kejriwal’s Sheesh Mahal. The Punjab Police has not been successful in stopping drug smuggling in Punjab, but is working on your instructions. On the other hand, many users say that the Punjab Police has taken the right action. No one has the right to use abusive language by taking the name of caste.

Women’s Commission took cognizance

The Women’s Commission has taken cognizance of the matter after the woman journalist was arrested by the Punjab Police. Rekha Sharma, chairperson of the National Commission for Women, has written a letter to the Director General of Police, Punjab, to intervene in the matter and take fair action against it. In this, Rekha Sharma told that no female police personnel were present on the spot while arresting the female journalist. He has been arrested without giving any reason. The Director General of Police has also been asked to submit the investigation report in four days.
