Delhi Ordinance: The Arvind Kejriwal government has got the support of the Congress on the issue of the ordinance brought by the central government in Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Monday thanked Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for supporting his party’s fight against the Centre’s ordinance. His reaction came ahead of the opposition meeting in Bengaluru where over 20 parties have gathered to chalk out a strategy to take on the BJP-led central government.

What did Kharge say on the ordinance

Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge while addressing the media said that it is not just about one person. If the democracy and constitution of the country suffers a setback, then it becomes our responsibility to unite and work together to save the democracy and the constitution. No individual can be bigger than the country. After finally getting the support of the Congress on Sunday, AAP is attending the opposition meeting in Bengaluru. The decision came after the grand old party extended its support to AAP and made it clear that it would not support the Centre’s ordinance on control of administrative services in Delhi.

Controversy over Delhi Ordinance

The Center issued an ordinance on May 19 to curtail the powers of the elected government of Delhi. The Supreme Court handed over all control to the elected government, except for services related to police, public order and land. Following the central government’s move, Kejriwal went on a nationwide tour and met non-BJP parties to garner support against the Delhi ordinance. The AAP supremo claimed that the ordinance would destroy the federal structure of the country. During the opposition’s uproar in Patna on 23 June, Arvind Kejriwal insisted on raising the issue during the meeting, but it turned into a political controversy.
