National Wheelchair Basketball Competition
Rajnandgaon. The matches of the Senior National Wheelchair Basketball Competition being organized in the basketball nursery Rajnandgaon have started. Before the start of the matches, the officials of the Wheelchair Basketball Federation including the new President Varun Ehlawat got introduced to the players of the women’s team. In this competition being played on round robin league basis, in the first match, the previous gold medalist Maharashtra team defeated Manipur by 43-06 points and the previous silver medalist Tamil Nadu team suffered an upset. It was defeated by Kerala team by 18-12 points. In another match played this morning, Karnataka defeated Odisha by 24-05. This competition is being organized from 23 to 29 November at the local Digvijay Stadium.
Giving the above information, Chhattisgarh Wheelchair Basketball Association President Sushil Kothari and Competition Organizing Secretary Sunil Golchha said that this competition will be held in two phases. In the first phase, women’s competition will be organized from 23 to 25 November and men’s competition will be organized from 27 to 29 November. Arrangements for the stay of these players have been made at Digvijay Stadium and SAI Hostel and some players and some teams have also stayed in various hotels. About 120 female and 150 male players and officials are expected to participate in this competition. No national has been held in wheelchair basketball after 20019. Maharashtra’s women’s and men’s teams are gold medal winners in the last competition.
There will also be a general body meeting
The first national competition of wheelchair basketball is being organized for the first time in Rajnandgaon. Earlier, the training camp of the Indian wheelchair basketball team was organized in Rajnandgaon. Sushil Kothari further said that during this competition, the General Body meeting of Basketball Federation of India will also be held and the elections of the Wheelchair Basketball Federation were also held. Officials from various states have also come to Rajnandgaon for this election.
Federation officials are also getting involved
For this competition, Chairman of Wheelchair Basketball Federation of India Varun Ehlawat, General Secretary Lewis George, Technical Commissioner of the Federation Abraham Polos, International coach Varun Ehlawat, Mrs. Suvarna Limaye, Kalva Radha Rao, Kalva Rajeshwar Rao, Amit Kumar, Govind Sen, Rajan and many others were present. International referees are also participating.
Indian team will be selected
Sunil Golchha, Organizing Secretary of the Senior National Wheelchair Basketball Competition, said that the Indian wheelchair basketball team is also being selected from this competition, which will participate in the Asia Oceania Zone Championship to be held in Bangkok, Thailand from 09 to 21 January 2024. A training camp for the Indian wheelchair basketball team selected from this competition will also be organized in Rajnandgaon. Mr. Golchha further said that this competition is being organized in collaboration with the sponsors of the Wheelchair Basketball Federation, Delhi Public School and Yugantar Public School, Rajnandgaon.
