Mittal’s critical care team achieved great success, saved the life of a pregnant woman who was admitted in critical condition

Bhilai. The critical care team of Mittal Hospital Bhilai has achieved a major success. A 28-year-old obstetrician was brought here in very critical condition on a ventilator. He had a caesarean section on January 18 at another hospital in the city. The condition of the patient was very bad due to heavy bleeding. Mittal’s critical care team was not only able to get the patient off the ventilator but also managed to give him a new lease of life.

Mittal’s kidney specialist Dr Vijay Vachani He told that the condition of the patient was very bad due to heavy bleeding. His kidneys had responded and urine excretion was almost non-existent. Actually, it was a complicated pregnancy. The patient’s blood pressure was continuously increasing during pregnancy. In the ninth month itself, the bleeding of the patient had started, due to which she had to undergo a caesarean section in emergency, but even after this the bleeding did not stop. The patient had to be transfused 12 units of blood. Meanwhile, the patient became a victim of infection. The infection reached the lungs and the kidneys stopped working.

kidneys not working

When the patient was brought to Mittal, not only was she infected, but the amount of hemoglobin in her body had dropped considerably. Along with this, there was also a shortage of protein. Kidneys were not working. The heart was also able to work only 25 percent. All attempts to take the patient off ventilator support at the previous hospital from where he was brought here were unsuccessful. Dialysis of the patient was first started in Mittal so that the body fluids could be brought to a balanced level.

Physiotherapy to improve the condition of the lungs

On February 12, the patient was brought to Mittal. Due to being on ventilator for about 25 days, she had become ventilator dependent. We made a phased plan for weaning off ventilator support and were able to slowly wean the patient off the ventilator. Physiotherapy was started to improve the condition of the patient’s lungs, as well as the deficiency of nutrients and protein in the body was filled with proper nutrients. Also the infection was successfully treated.

The patient was discharged on March 13

Slowly the patient started responding and after 50 days we were able to get him off the ventilator and the patient was discharged on 13th March. The patient is still on dialysis. Kidney biopsy will be done to check his health. This is a great achievement for the critical care team at Mittal.
