CG News: Efforts to reduce crowding in jails, by running a special campaign, bail was granted to 1086 prisoners, 369 prisoners were released…

Bilaspur. After holding regular meetings of the Under Trial Review Committee formed in the District Legal Services Authorities, a special campaign was run and the eligible under trial prisoners detained in various jails of Chhattisgarh were released on bail. This action was taken under the guidance and constant monitoring of Justice Gautam Bhaduri, Executive Chairman of Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority.

On the instructions of the Supreme Court, NALSA conducted a special campaign from 18 September to 20 November in view of the increasing crowd of prisoners in jails. In this, instructions were given to release the prisoners by holding a continuous meeting of the Under Trial Review Committee. In the committee meeting, the District Judge, Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority and the Collector, Superintendent of Police, Jailer and Secretary of the concerned district recommended the release of the prisoners on bail.

Recommendation to release prisoners on bail

During the above two month period, all the District Legal Services Authorities organized a total of 114 meetings. The committee recommended the release of eligible custody prisoners on bail. The committee identified a total of 1389 prisoners and recommended the release of 1222 prisoners on bail. On this, the concerned court has released 1086 prisoners on bail.

A total of 369 cases were resolved

Let us tell you that as per the instructions of Justice Gautam Bhaduri, Executive Chairman of the State Legal Services Authority, the third “State Level Large Jail Lok Adalat” was also organized in all the jails of Chhattisgarh on 5 November 2023. In this, a special sitting of 2-2 judicial magistrates of each district was also held and the eligible prisoners were immediately released after resolving their cases in the jail itself. A total of 369 cases of eligible custody prisoners were resolved in this Jail Lok Adalat.
