Bihar Caste Census: Politics has heated up in Bihar regarding the caste census. Article 5 of the first affidavit stated that under the Census Act, 1948, no government other than the Center has the right to carry out the census or similar process.

Later, the Center filed a fresh affidavit deleting this part. It said, Article 5 was included by mistake. The fresh affidavit has been filed to clear the constitutional and legal position. The Central Government is taking all steps to raise the status of SC/ST and MBCs as per the provisions of the Constitution of India. Earlier, the Bihar government had said in the Patna High Court that this is not a census but a survey. Hearing this, the Patna High Court gave the green signal to the Bihar government to conduct the survey. Earlier, the hearing was held on 21 August.

In the case of caste census, the center has kept its stand

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing on behalf of the Central Government, gave a lot of arguments on this issue in the court. He had said that he is not with anyone in this matter. Just want to present our side regarding its result. Tushar Mehta had sought 7 days time from the court of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Bhatti. After this the date of 28 August was given. Presenting the argument in the court, the Bihar government said that the caste census work in the state was completed on 6th August. All the data has also been uploaded online.
