Bihar Caste Census: An important hearing is going to be held in the Supreme Court on the caste census in Bihar today i.e. on 17th May. The Bihar government had challenged the decision of the Patna High Court regarding the caste census in the Supreme Court. An important hearing is going to take place today on this decision. The Nitish government has challenged the decision of the Patna High Court, in which the court had given a decision to ban the caste census.
The Patna High Court had rejected the Bihar government’s plea to expedite the hearing on the petitions challenging the caste-based census. The Patna High Court, while hearing the matter on May 4, had ordered an interim stay on the caste-based census. An interim petition was filed in the Supreme Court by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar seeking an early hearing in the caste census matter. It was said in the petition that the Patna High Court’s order of May 4 is interim, so the decision on this pending issue should be pronounced soon and the matter should be disposed of. No benefit will be served by keeping the matter pending. Patna High Court gave its decision regarding this on 9th May. The High Court had upheld the earlier order given in this case.

Ruling party and opposition face to face regarding caste census
It is worth mentioning that till now 3 cases regarding the caste census have come up in the Supreme Court. In the beginning of the year 2023, separate petitions were filed demanding a ban on the caste census. But the Supreme Court rejected each time. Let us tell you that the ruling party and the opposition are face to face in Bihar regarding the caste census. On one hand, where the ministers and MLAs of JDU and RJD involved in Bihar government are committed to conduct caste census, on the other hand BJP is against this issue since the beginning.
