The soft signal rule will be dropped from the World Test Championship final 2023 between India and Australia to be played at the Oval ground in the city of London from June 7. According to a report in Cricbuzz, the ICC Cricket Committee, which is headed by former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly. That committee has informed the Indian team and the Australian team, which reached the final of the World Test Championship, about the removal of this rule.

Soft signals are used by the third umpire (TV umpire) during a match when they have been unable to reach a decision despite the use of facilities such as replays, hotspots or ball tracking. When the on-field umpire is unable to make any decision during a catch, stump, run out or any other decision, he sends a soft signal that out or not out, and sends that decision to the third umpire. In such circumstances, many times even the third umpire is unable to take a decision in such decisions and gives the decision using the soft signal used by the on-field umpire.

There can be no soft signal at this time

If the third umpire finds concrete evidence against the on-field umpire’s decision and the third umpire reaches the decision through video footage or technology, then the ‘soft signal’ is no longer used. However, now the ICC has discontinued this rule which played an important role in decisions during the match.
