West Indies Tour: The Indian cricket team has left for the West Indies on Thursday night in different flights. The BCCI could not get tickets for one of the flights, due to which the players flying in the first batch will reach the Caribbean country via America, London and Netherlands. However, both the team captain Rohit Sharma and former captain Virat Kohli are yet to turn out for the West Indies.
Virat and Rohit are holidaying in Europe
India captains Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will fly in from Paris and London respectively. It is not yet clear when both the senior players will reach West Indies. Rohit Sharma is holidaying with his family in Paris and Virat Kohli is holidaying with his family in London. According to a newspaper report, both the senior players are scheduled to reach the Caribbean island next week.
Start of new cycle of WTC
Before the two-match Test series, the Indian cricket team will play a practice match. Rohit Sharma and Co. will begin their World Test Championship cycle 2023-25 against the West Indies. The Indian team played its last Test match against Australia in the WTC final. Whereas, the West Indies team played their last Test series against South Africa. India and the West Indies have faced each other 98 times, with India winning 22 times, while the Windies have won 30 times.
India has the upper hand
The two teams last met in a Test series in 2019, in which India defeated the Windies by a 2-0 margin. This time also Rohit Sharma & Co. has the upper hand. However, India’s pace attack is less experienced, lacking Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah. The responsibility of leading the fast bowling attack will be on Mohammed Siraj. Shardul Thakur, Unadkat, Navdeep Saini and Mukesh Kumar will play supporting roles.
