Uniform Civil Code: Opposition to the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is increasing in the country. After the leaders of political parties, now some social organizations are also opposing it. First, the people of the Muslim community of the whole country opposed this law. After this, Sikhs, Christians and tribals have also come out against it. Many tribal organizations from Jharkhand to North East are opposing the UCC.

According to media reports, more than 30 tribal organizations in Jharkhand have decided to oppose the Uniform Civil Code. They held a meeting to discuss the issue, in which it was decided that they would request the Law Commission to withdraw the idea of a law. These organizations believe that this may put their tribal identity in danger in the country. They have also decided to launch an agitation against the Law Commission’s idea of making a law on UCC. Tribal organisations, gathered under the banner of Adivasi Samanvay Samiti, have expressed deep skepticism about this and have said that the UCC can dilute many tribal laws and rights.

Tribal identity may be in danger: Dev Kumar Dhan

Dev Kumar Dhan, a member of Tribal Coordination Committee, told that in the meeting, we have written a letter to the Law Commission, urging them to withdraw the idea of Uniform Civil Code, as it may endanger the identity of the tribal community across India. The tribal body will protest against the UCC near the Raj Bhavan in Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi on July 5 and submit a memorandum to the governor. Dhan further said that the enactment of UCC will have a major impact on the Chhotanagpur Tenancy Act, Santhal Pargana Tenancy Act, PESA Act, Fifth Schedule Area Rules, Tribal Marriage, Divorce, Child Adoption and Property Succession Act. If their demand is not considered, tribals from all over India will protest in Delhi as well. Adivasi Jan Parishad President Prem Munda said that they will not allow any such law to be implemented, which takes away the land from the tribals.
