Rahul Gandhi Wayanad Visit: After the completion of assembly elections in five states of the country, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Mizoram, voting is going on for Telangana assembly elections today. These assembly elections are being considered as the semi-finals of the Lok Sabha elections to be held in 2024. The results of the assembly elections will come on December 3, after which all the parties will decide their future strategy. Among these parties, everyone’s eyes will be on Congress the most. Even before the assembly elections, there was discussion in the political circles that if Congress wins the assembly elections, then India would like to separate from the alliance and contest the elections. These discussions gained momentum when Rahul Gandhi reached his parliamentary constituency Wayanad even in the busy election season. Political experts say that Rahul Gandhi can contest Lok Sabha elections from both Wayanad and Amethi. If this happens then another rift in the India alliance is certain.
Why Rahul’s Wayanad visit is the reason for rift in India alliance?
The Communist Party of India (CPI), which is part of the India alliance, had decided in the national leadership meeting in September that Rahul Gandhi would be requested not to contest elections from Wayanad, Kerala. In fact, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Kerala, the Congress-led UPA won 19 out of 20 seats in the state, while the BJP-led NDA did not get a single seat, while the CPI could win only one seat. This is the reason why CPI wants Rahul Gandhi not to contest from Wayanad so that CPI can get more seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. According to media reports quoting CPI sources, if Rahul Gandhi contests elections from Wayanad, it will prove to be harmful for the India alliance.

If Rahul Gandhi contests elections from Wayanad, CPI is sure to suffer loss, but Congress has always got support in South India. Rahul Gandhi had contested the last Lok Sabha elections from Amethi and Wayanad. Rahul Gandhi had to face defeat from BJP’s Smriti Irani in Amethi. Rahul got 413394 votes, while Smriti Irani got 468514 votes. However, the people of Wayanad made Rahul win. There were speculations that Rahul Gandhi might leave the Wayanad seat on CPI’s request, but Congress had even at that time termed the idea of CPI leaving the Wayanad seat as baseless. Now seeing the way Rahul Gandhi has reached his parliamentary constituency even in the busy election season, it is certain that along with CPI, many parties included in the India alliance will also lose sleep.
