Congress released the first list of candidates in Madhya Pradesh.

Madhya Pradesh Assembly Election: The Congress party on Sunday released its first list of 144 candidates for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, fielding state unit president and former chief minister Kamal Nath from Chhindwara. Jaivardhan Singh, son of former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, has been fielded from Raghighat seat. He was a minister in the previous Kamal Nath government, which fell in March 2021 after 22 sitting Congress MLAs resigned under the leadership of Jyotiraditya Scindia and joined the BJP.

List released on the first day of Navratri

The announcement came a day after the party’s Central Election Committee met at the AICC office in New Delhi to finalize the candidates. Kamal Nath had said the Congress would announce its candidates for the assembly elections after ‘Pitru Paksha’, during which Hindus pay homage to their ancestors. Pitru Paksha ended on Sunday and the auspicious Navratri festival started. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has already announced candidates for 136 of the 230 assembly constituencies in the state.
