Manipur violence: Hearing in the Manipur violence case was held in the Supreme Court today i.e. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the Manipur government, said that an affidavit has been filed in the matter. Tushar Mehta further said that I am trying to be as fair as possible, I am only talking about facts. At the same time, while issuing summons to the DGP of Manipur in the matter, the court asked him to appear on Monday. The court said that the next hearing in the matter would be on August 7. The State Government and the concerned authorities are sensitive to this issue. FIRs have been registered in the matter, but due to the law and order situation in the state, most of the FIRs have been transferred and some are in the process of transfer.

The Solicitor General of the Government of Manipur further stated that the officers of all police stations have been directed to be sensitive to the sexual violence reported by women and children. Two tribal women working at a carwash in Manipur were allegedly raped and murdered. Manipur Police is probing the matter, 37 witnesses have been examined and 14 other employees of the carwash are being questioned. Seven accused including a juvenile have been arrested. The Solicitor General told the Supreme Court that the FIR has been transferred to the CBI for speedy registration of the culprits.

There was a lot of delay in registering the FIR: CJI

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court believes that one thing is very clear that there has been a lot of delay in registering the FIR. In Manipur, a woman was dragged out of a car and her son was beaten to death. The incident took place on May 4 and the FIR was registered on July 7. CJI DY Chandrachud believes that it seems that except for 1-2 FIRs no one has been arrested. Investigation is going very slow. Two months later the FIR was registered and not a single statement was recorded.
