Manipur Violence: The mastermind of the case of two missing students in Manipur has been arrested by CBI from Pune. Officials have given this information to the media. Officials said today i.e. on Friday that CBI has arrested a 22-year-old man from Pune. He is suspected to be the mastermind of the case of two missing Manipuri students who are believed to have been murdered.

Arrested from Pune

According to media reports, he said that a special investigation team of CBI arrested a person named Paolunmang from Pune on Wednesday. After this the CBI team took him to Guwahati to present him in the court. Officials said the special court has sent him to CBI custody till October 16. Officials further said that the CBI suspects Paolunmang to be the mastermind in the case. The central agency had on October 1 arrested two men, Paominlun Haokip and Smallsom Haokip, and two women, Lhingneichong Baitekuki and Tinneiling Henthang.

Two students went missing on July 6

Please note that Phizam Hemanjit (20) and 17 year old girl Hizam Linthoingambi had gone missing on July 6. Photographs of their dead bodies reportedly surfaced on 25 September, leading to violent protests by students. The victims’ families suspected that their children had been killed by armed attackers. After the matter came to light, state Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured him that the matter of murder of students will be taken seriously and strict action will be taken against the culprits. The Manipur government handed over the students’ murder case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
