The health of Jyotipriya Malik, arrested in the ration distribution corruption case in West Bengal, is now improving. He suddenly fainted during his court appearance yesterday, after which he was admitted to a private hospital. The court has asked to form a board of doctors in the Command Hospital to provide home food to Jyotipriya Malik and monitor his health after getting treatment from a private hospital.

While talking to the media, Jyotipriya Malik’s brother Dr. Deba Priya told that his blood sugar level had gone down. We immediately ordered chocolate so that our blood sugar could rise. As soon as permission was received from the court, Jyotipriya was taken to a private hospital. On the other hand, media reports have quoted doctors as saying that Jyotipriya’s condition has improved. Many of his investigation reports are still yet to come, after which a decision will be taken on his discharge.

Sent to ED custody till November 5

The court has sent Jyotipriya Malik to ED judicial custody till November 5. Earlier in the court, ED lawyer Firoz Edulji alleged that Bakibur Rehman, the main accused in the ration scam, had transferred huge amounts of money to three companies on the instructions of Jyotipriya Malik. Rehman allegedly stole PDS food grains and sold it in the open market. According to the allegation, Malik’s daughter and wife were directors in the above three companies till 2015 when Malik was the Food Minister. He had allegedly asked Rahman to transfer money as loan to these companies, but had not yet repaid the amount. In such a situation, there is a need to interrogate him in detail.

Called ED’s allegations baseless

On the other hand, Jyotipriya Malik’s daughter and wife, through their lawyer, have termed the allegations against them as baseless. Malik’s lawyer Shyamal Ghosh said that the ED has not found anything concrete during the remand. After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the court sent Jyotipriya Malik to ED judicial custody till November 5.
