A massive fire broke out in a drug de-addiction center in Iran.
Iran Fire Incident: At least 32 people were killed and 16 others were injured in a fire today at a drug rehabilitation center in eastern Iran. This information has been given by the Deputy Governor of the province Mohammad Jalai. 16 injured people have been admitted to hospitals in Langroud city, located about 200 kilometers northwest of the country’s capital Tehran. The condition of four of these remains very serious.

The cause of the fire has not been known yet. However, the city’s Chief Justice Ismail Sadeghi has started an investigation. The capacity of the center was for 50 people. Sadeghi said several suspects, including the centre’s manager, had already been arrested. A huge plume of smoke was seen in the air in a video viral on social media. Also, police team, fire brigade and ambulance team also reached the spot to control the fire and after a lot of effort the fire was brought under control. At the same time, people have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

According to media reports, this year on drugs, Iran accounted for 47 percent of the global heroin and morphine seizures from Afghanistan during 2020. Iran has executed at least 173 people convicted of drug-related crimes this year, Amnesty International said in a June report. The rights group said the figure was almost three times higher than last year. Earlier in August, a fire broke out in Tehran’s Grand Bazaar, damaging several shops but causing no injuries.
