ICC suspends Sri Lanka Cricket Membership: ICC Board has suspended the membership of Sri Lanka Cricket with immediate effect. ICC has taken away the membership of the team with immediate effect after the government’s interference in the board. Sri Lanka’s performance in the World Cup 2023 has been very disappointing. Sri Lanka cricket team played 9 matches. Due to which she could win only 2 matches.

According to the information, after the country’s poor performance in this year’s World Cup, the Sports Ministry of Sri Lanka dismissed the SLC Board and appointed an interim committee in its place. But, the Sri Lankan Court of Appeal stayed the dismissal. The ICC Board met today and decided that Sri Lanka Cricket was in serious breach of its obligations as a member, a statement said. In particular, it needs to manage its affairs autonomously and ensure that there is no government interference in the governance, regulation and or administration of cricket in Sri Lanka.

ICC board meeting to be held on November 21

The ICC has said in its statement that the terms of the suspension will be decided by the ICC Board at the appropriate time. The ICC Board meeting is scheduled to be held on November 21, after which the future course of action is expected to be clear. Sri Lanka is scheduled to host the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in January and February 2024. The Sri Lanka men’s team won only two out of nine matches in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 and finished with four points. With three more matches to be played in the league stage, they are at number 8 in the points table.
