Raids are also being conducted at many places in the money laundering case. Meanwhile, a senior Enforcement Directorate (ED) official has been arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 20 lakh from a government official in Tamil Nadu. The name of the accused is said to be Ankit Tiwari.

Search on ED officer’s premises

Immediately after the arrest of the ED officer, the police reached ED’s Madurai office for search. There was a lot of drama and uproar in the ED office regarding the police search. According to media reports, not only Ankit, many other ED officers from Madurai and Chennai are also involved in financial corruption. Evidence is being collected against him. Allegedly, ED officer Ankit Tiwari used to blackmail many people and take crores of rupees as bribe from them. The bribe amount was also distributed among the rest of the ED officials. Ankit’s office was searched and several documents were seized, in which evidence of bribe money transactions was found.

what is the matter

On October 29, the accused ED officer had demanded a bribe of lakhs of rupees from a government employee in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, in return for closing the case. Ankit told that the blackmailing government official has asked the ED from the Prime Minister’s Office to investigate the matter. The next day the government employee came to the ED office. At that time Ankit had asked for a bribe of Rs 3 crore from him. He said that if this money is given then the case will end. After lengthy negotiations, the ED officer agreed to a bribe of Rs 51 lakh.

On November 1, a government employee gave a bribe of Rs 20 lakh to Ankit. But the ED official said that the entire bribe amount will have to be paid as this money will also be distributed among senior officials. Ankit also threatened to take strict action against the government employee if the money was not paid soon. The government employee became suspicious on this. On November 30, he lodged a complaint with the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department of Dindigul. Soon after, on Friday, the ED officer was arrested red-handed while taking bribe of the remaining Rs 20 lakh.
