Delhi Air Pollution: The rain brought great relief to the residents of the national capital, who were breathing poisonous air for the past few weeks. According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR) data at 7.30 pm, the air quality in Delhi remained in the ‘poor’ category with AQI at 204. Apart from this, there is no sign of rain in Delhi.

SAFAR released figures

According to SAFAR data, areas like Delhi University 269, IIT Delhi 221, Airport (T3) 239, Dhirpur 228, Lodhi Road witnessed poor category air with AQI 218. Bringing a big relief, some areas like Pusa 142, Mathura Road 159, Noida 183, Gurugram 169, Ayanagar recorded moderate air quality with 159 AQI.

On Saturday, the Delhi Health Department also advised people of the capital to avoid outdoor walks, bursting of crackers and exposure to air pollution. With air quality improving on Friday, the Delhi government has postponed the odd-even scheme for plying of vehicles on the roads for the time being.

Cases of stubble burning were reported in more than 100 fields in Punjab.

Despite the Supreme Court directing the Punjab government to ban stubble burning to tackle the problem of air pollution in the Delhi-NCR region, 104 incidents of farm fires were reported in Punjab on Saturday, taking the total number of stubble burning to Rs. The number of incidents has increased to 23,730. The latest figure of farm fires in Punjab is much lower than the fires seen in the state a few days ago. Burning of paddy straw in Punjab and Haryana is believed to be one of the reasons behind the alarming rise in air pollution levels in Delhi in October and November. Only six cases of stubble burning were reported in Punjab on Friday as rain lashed many parts of the state.
