Cauvery Dispute: There has been a long standing dispute between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka regarding the Cauvery water dispute. Due to this, Bengaluru was closed yesterday i.e. on Tuesday. On this issue, now former CM BS Yediyurappa staged a protest against the Karnataka government near the Gandhi statue in Bengaluru today. Apart from this, BJP leaders raised slogans in Bengaluru against CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar for releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu.

BJP made big allegations against Karnataka CM

During the protest, BJP leader BS Yediyurappa said that state CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM Shivakumar should know that they should not behave like agents of Tamil Nadu. They should realize the real facts. There is no water at all in all our reservoirs. There is shortage of drinking water. He further said that even the Prime Minister cannot interfere in this matter, because the matter is in the Supreme Court.

BJP called CM and Deputy CM as agents of Tamil Nadu

BS Yediyurappa further said that Karnataka is facing a crisis as CM Siddaramaiah and Irrigation Minister DK Shivakumar are behaving like agents of Tamil Nadu. BJP MP from Bengaluru South Tejasvi Surya said Karnataka should stop releasing water to Tamil Nadu. He said that the Karnataka government has completely failed to give proper details to the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC). Pointing fingers at the central government is not going to work. Central official work has been done. Now it is in the hands of the authorities and the Supreme Court.

Serious allegations against Karnataka government

Yediyurappa further said that the present Congress government has not taken the Cauvery issue seriously. Farmers are literally on the streets and water is flowing towards Tamil Nadu day by day. The state government has completely failed in fulfilling its responsibility. There is no question of the Prime Minister’s intervention on this issue because this is your (the present Congress government) failure. Responding to BJP’s protest, State Home Minister G Parameshwara said that the state government is capable of handling the issue.

What did Siddaramaiah say?

At the same time, on BJP’s protest, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that the state will challenge the order of Cauvery Water Management Authority in the Supreme Court. He said Cauvery Regulatory Committee (CWRC) has ordered to release 3000 cusecs of water, I have already spoken to my lawyers. He has suggested us to challenge this order in the Supreme Court. We will challenge it in the Supreme Court. The Chief Minister of Karnataka further said that we do not have water to give to Tamil Nadu. CWRC had ordered Karnataka to ensure release of 3000 cusecs of water into Biligundlu from September 28 to October 15, 2023. The quantity of water released was earlier 5000 cusecs.
