The police officer said that the MLA had deliberately given this speech maliciously and it had hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus. Moreover, due to this speech the MLA has promoted enmity between Hindus and Muslims. Meanwhile, Assam Congress president Bhupen Bora issued a show cause notice to his Goalpara MLA Aftabuddin Mollah for making derogatory remarks about priests, naamghariyas and saints on November 7.

In the notice issued to the Congress MLA, it was said that in your speech in a public meeting held in Goalpara district on November 4, 2023, you made very unpleasant remarks about priests, naamghariyas and saints, to which the people of Assam have reacted strongly. Being a secular democratic political party, the Indian National Congress is completely against the actions of spreading hatred and making religious and communal poisonous comments.
