World Hemophilia Day 2024: Many times, bleeding stops after some time of injury or cut. Stopping bleeding from the body due to blood clotting is a normal process. However, in some people, blood clot is not able to form after injury, which is due to hemophilia. It is a genetic disease. World Haemophilia Day is celebrated every year on 17 April to spread awareness about this disease.

Due to hemophilia
The blood of a person suffering from hemophilia has very little ability to form a clot. In such a situation, patients suffering from hemophilia have to be very careful because even a minor injury causes excessive bleeding. In hemophilia, due to changes in genes, clotting factor protein is not produced in the body.
There are two types of hemophilia disease – ‘Hemophilia-A’ and ‘Hemophilia-B’. Patients suffering from Hemophilia-A are deficient in ‘Factor-8’ which is essential for blood clotting. On the other hand, in Haemophilia-B there is a deficiency of ‘Factor-9’. Both the components are essential for forming a blood clot in the human body.
Symptoms of Hemophilia
Symptoms of hemophilia disease can be mild or severe depending on Factor-8 or Factor-9. The severity of hemophilia can be determined based on the level of clots present in the blood. Apart from prolonged bleeding, hemophilia can also be detected through some common symptoms.

Patients suffering from hemophilia also show initial symptoms of continuous bleeding from the nose and gums. Apart from this, the skin peels easily. Due to internal bleeding in the body, some people may also complain of pain in the joints, besides bleeding inside the head, which may cause problems like severe headache, stiffness in the neck.

Earlier it was very difficult to treat hemophilia, but now if there is deficiency of Factor-8 or Factor-9 in the body of the affected patient, it is compensated from outside through injection. If the severity of the disease is less in the patient, then treatment can also be done through medicines.
Take precautions in hemophilia disease
Patients suffering from hemophilia should get their children checked in advance, because it is a genetic disease. Generally, factor-8 deficiency is seen in most of the patients. By getting tested in advance, precautions can be taken and immediate treatment can be given by giving injections.
