An advisory issued by the Ministry of External Affairs of India said that in view of the increasing anti-India activities and politically motivated criminal violence in Canada, all Indian citizens present there and those considering traveling are urged to exercise increased caution. . India’s advisory is also seen as a tit-for-tat response to Canada’s travel information, which was updated earlier amid rising tensions between the two countries.

Canadian PM Justin Trudeau’s allegation while announcing part of the information on the ongoing investigation into Nijjar’s murder has further escalated already sour relations between New Delhi and Ottawa over the matter related to alleged support to the pro-Khalistan movement.

Shortly after Prime Minister Trudeau’s claim, Canada’s Foreign Ministry expelled a senior Indian diplomat from the country. In retaliation, India also soon expelled a top Canadian official with the condition of leaving the country within five days. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has also rejected Canada’s claim in Nijjar’s killing, calling it absurd and motivated. According to media reports, 230,000 Indian students and 700,000 NRIs reside in Canada.
