India Denied Report: Amid the India-Canada row, our Ministry of External Affairs refuted several reports recently circulated which claimed that India had sent a secret memorandum to the North American-based Consulate to take action against Sikh diaspora organisations. India has called this memo fake. The ministry termed the report as fake and completely fabricated and said that there is no such memo.
Foreign Ministry replied
The Ministry of External Affairs said that this is part of the continuous propaganda campaign against India. This outlet is known for propagating fake news spread by Pakistani intelligence agency. Also, the statement said that those who propagate such fake news lose their credibility. Bagchi issued a statement on this matter on social media.
Secret memo claimed to be released in April 2023
Foreign media reports have claimed that India had issued a secret memo in April 2023. Several Sikh separatists, including Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, were listed in the memo. It was claimed that India had sent this memo two months before Nijjar’s murder. In this memo, it was claimed that instructions had been given to take strict action against Nijjar. A diplomatic dispute between Canada and India began after Nijjar’s murder.
Tension between India and Canada
Let us tell you that recently the tension between India and Canada had increased due to the murder of Nijjar. Meanwhile, relations between the two deteriorated when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of being behind the murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. However, India rejected this claim and assured that it would cooperate in the investigation process if Canada provided evidence.
Trudeau’s allegations led to a diplomatic row between the two countries and India temporarily suspended its visa services to Canada. Visa services then resumed but Ottawa had to recall about 40 diplomats from India.
