Hydrogen Powered Toyota Hilux: Japanese automaker Toyota has unveiled the hydrogen-powered Toyota Hilux pick-up in the United Kingdom. This pickup truck has been built under a government funded project through the Advanced Propulsion Centre. It has been introduced at the company manufacturing plant in Derby, UK. This hydrogen-powered pick-up truck is a prototype. Therefore, its number has been limited now. Only 10 units of this truck have been made to test its performance etc.
Power train has been in use for 10 years
Let us tell you that the power train shared with the hydrogen-powered pickup truck Toyota Mirai has been used. It is an electric sedan, in which hydrogen fuel cell technology has been used. It is noteworthy that the power train has been in use for about 10 years. It provides an environmentally friendly fuel source. This will not harm the environment.
In 2022, Toyota began work on the Hilux FCEV prototype. Ricardo, another company working on the project, was in charge of integrating the fuel cell parts into the Hilux’s chassis, while D2H Advanced Technology handled the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis. Thatcham Research has taken the responsibility of repairing and creating the CEV training package.
High pressure fuel tank has been used
The hydrogen-powered Toyota Hilux uses a high-pressure fuel tank, giving the company a claimed range of 587 km. The battery used in the vehicle is housed in the rear load deck. Due to which adequate space is available in the cabin also. A 2.8-liter turbocharged diesel engine with 201 horsepower of maximum output powers the contemporary Hilux. However, depending on whether the buyer buys the 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission or the 6-speed manual gearbox, the torque output is either 420 Nm or 500 Nm.
What is its price in India?
Hilux is available in two variants in the Indian market, STD and High. Only manual gearbox option is given in STD variant. While the High variation is the only pickup that offers an automatic transmission. Whereas, if we talk about the price of Toyota Hilux, its ex-showroom price in Indian Rupees is Rs 30.40 lakh. 37.90 lakhs.
