Bollywood’s famous music composer Madan Mohan Kohli was born in the year 1952 on 25 June. His father Raibahadur Chunnilal was associated with the film world and was a shareholder in big film studios like Bombay Talkies and Filmistaan. Due to the film environment in the family, Madan Mohan also wanted to earn a big name by working in films, but at the behest of his father, he decided to join the army and started working in Dehradun.

He was the son of Raibahadur Chunnilal Kohli, a director of the Bombay Talkies film company. Chunnilal later laid the foundation of Filmistan and gave many stars to Filmakash with famous films. Deep love between Lata and Madanmohan

Lataji first met Madan Mohan at Filmistan Studio. It was the year 1947 and he was starting to get some recognition. Master Ghulam Haider called him to record a song. When she reached Filmistan Studio, Lataji came to know that the shooting of a very big film Shaheed was going on. They have been called in to record a duet for it. The person with whom she had to sing this duet was Madan Mohan. Lataji had never seen him before or heard him sing.

The duet that Lataji recorded with Madan Mohan was a song about brother-sister affection in the cage called Bulbul Bole Mera Chhota Sa Dil Dole. After recording, he congratulated Madan Mohan for his singing. Madan Mohan briefs her that he is not going to become a singer but a music composer and she will sing for him in his first project as a music composer. But due to some reason Lataji could not sing in her first film Aankhen. Madan Mohan was very sad about this. He took them to his house and said when we first met we sang a song about a brother and sister. Today is Rakshabandhan, come tie me a rakhi. From today onwards you are my sister and I am your Madan Bhaiya.

Madan Bhaiya of Lataji

Madanmohan used to consider Lataji as his sister and in return Lataji used to call him Madan Bhaiya all his life. Lataji once said that other musicians have given me the songs, while Madan Bhaiya has given the music. Madan Mohan is alive in the world of music even after death

Madan Mohan is the only Hindi film composer credited as music director for a film whose music was composed and recorded posthumously. Madan Mohan’s son Sanjeev Kohli recreated his father’s compositions for the film Veer-Zaara (2004) starring Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerji, nearly three decades after Madan Mohan’s death.
