Both IAS and PCS services are considered to be one of the most prestigious and proud civil services in the country. It is the dream of lakhs of people to get into both these administrative services. This is the reason that for the past many years the number of candidates applying for Union Public Service Commission Civil Services i.e. UPSC and respective State Public Service Commission PCS services is increasing every year.

Main difference between IAS and PCS
- IAS officers are selected under the Central Government, while PCS officers are selected under the State Government.
- The IAS is appointed by the President, while the PCS is appointed by the Governor.
- IAS officer can contribute for some time in any state on leave of an officer. At the same time, PCS officers can provide their services in different departments in the absence of any other officer. Actually, PCS officers can work in different departments only in their state.
- IAS officer training begins at Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy, Mussoorie followed by district training in the allotted cadre.
- IAS officers get promotions from time to time, whereas it takes some time for PCS to get promoted.
