Sonya Christian was born on 28 July 1966 in Quilon, Kerala to Paul and Pamela Christian. She graduated in Mathematics from the University of Kerala in 1987 and then went to the US for further studies. He studied at the post-graduate level in 1990 from the University of Southern California. The process of his studies did not end here.
In the year 2002, he received the degree of Doctor of Education from the University of California at Los Angeles and earned a name in the field of education. Meanwhile Sonya Christian married Shriram Khe on 13 February 1993 and they have a daughter named Isha Christian.
During his studies, he worked as an education scientist in several colleges. In 1991, she became a lecturer at American River College in Sacramento. After working here for some time, he worked as an assistant professor at Bakersfield College in California. After holding the same position till 1995, she became Associate Professor for the next five years and then Dean.
