ITEP Course: If you also want to become a teacher, then a new course has been brought by NEP for you, through which you can become a teacher only after 12th. Now you will not have to do separate BEd to become a teacher in government schools. National Council for Teacher Education i.e. NCTE has prepared a new course for this. It was named Integrated Teachers Education Program (ITEP), this course will be of 4 years and after 2030, qualification for teacher recruitment will be given only with the help of ITEP course.

What is ITEP?

The Integrated Teachers Education Program (ITEP) course aims to prepare teachers for the basic, elementary, middle and secondary stages according to the school structure. This course will ensure whether the candidate is eligible to enter the teaching profession or not. To pursue this course, the candidate must be connected to Indian values, languages, knowledge, ethos, tribal traditions and also be well versed with the latest developments in education and pedagogy.

What did NCTE say?

The National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) says that the ITEP course will prepare teachers for the 4 stages of the new school system i.e. Foundation, Preparatory, Middle and Secondary (5+3+3+4). Currently it is being offered in pilot mode in some Central and State Universities, IIT-NIT. This course can be fully implemented from the next session.

4 year ITEP course

All courses BA- BEd, BSc- BEd and BCom- BEd will be included in ITEP. It has been prepared under NEP 2020. This will be different from the old 4-year Integrated BEd course. However, till now, to be eligible for teacher recruitment, one had to do 3 years of graduation and 2 years of BEd course, but now through ITEP course, students will also save 1 year.

Admission in ITEP

As per the structure introduced by NEP 2020, entrance exams will be conducted every year for admission to ITP courses. According to the marks obtained in the entrance exam, students will be allotted colleges. After this, admission will be given through counselling. On the basis of entrance exam, students can take admission in courses like BSc BEd, BA BEd or BCom BEd.

Admission will be done through NTA entrance test.

Entrance test conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to ITEP course. This examination will be computer based (CBT). NCTE will soon release information about entrance examination and admission on the official website ncte.gov.in. From where you will be able to see all the details of this course.
