- iPhone XR becomes the best-selling smartphone in first half of 2019
- Total of 26.9 million units of iPhones XR shipped in first half of 2019

Last year Apple decided to launch an "affordable" iPhone alongside the usual expensive ones. It was the iPhone XR. As Apple aimed the iPhone XR has indeed helped the Cupertino tech company increase sales. A new report coming from IHS Market states around 26.9 million units of the iPhone XR have been shipped in the first quarter of 2019 that make its the best-selling smartphone in the world. To recall, the iPhone XR was launched last year in September alongside the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max.
What made iPhone XR shipment go up drastically compared to other iPhone models? It is clearly some of the recent price drops of the iPhone XR. To recollect, the iPhone XR was launched in India with a starting price of Rs 76,900 for the base 64GB storage model. The 128GB variant of the iPhone XR launched with a price of Rs 81,900 while the 256GB variant of the phone comes with a price of Rs 91,900.
Some months post the launch Apple dropped the price of the iPhone XR as a part of a promotional offer. After applying the promotional offer consumers were able to grab the iPhone XR for starting price of Rs 53,900. This was the price of the 64GB RAM model of the iPhone. The price of 128GB storage model of the iPhone XR was dropped to Rs 64,900 while the 256GB storage model of the iPhone was selling for Rs 74,900.
We believe it's the price drop that helped the iPhone XR shipment to go up drastically in the first half of 2019. The market research report notes a total of 13.6 million iPhone XR units were shipped in the first quarter of 2019 and 13.3 million units shipped in the second quarter. This totals to 26.9 million units are the first half of 2019.
The IHS Market report shows a total of 10 smartphones that were most demanding in the first half of 2019.
