The Enforcement Directorate on Monday i.e. today took Aam Aadmi Party’s Amargarh MLA Jaswant Singh Gajjanmajra into custody in the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case registered against him last year. According to media reports, Gajanmajra was detained because he had evaded four summons for questioning in the case. He told that the MLA will be produced in a court in Mohali this evening.

ED took into custody

Jalandhar ED team took Gajjanmajra into custody when he was addressing a meeting of AAP workers at Amargarh in Malerkotla district in the morning. In September 2022, an ED team had raided Gajjanmajra’s house besides a school run by his family in Amargarh and an animal feed factory.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had searched his properties in the Rs 40.92 crore bank fraud case last year, following which the ED had registered a PMLA case against him. The CBI had said that during the searches, an amount of Rs 16.57 lakh, 88 foreign currency notes and incriminating documents were recovered. Gajjanamajra is one of the seven people and companies named as accused in the bank fraud case. bank fraud

The CBI probe was conducted following a complaint against Gajjanmajra’s firm at Gaunspura in Malerkotla by a branch of Bank of India in Ludhiana. The bank’s complaint said that through its directors, the firm had concealed the mortgaged stock and diverted the book loans with a false and dishonest intention so that it could be handed over to the creditor bank for inspection and recovery as a secured creditor.
