Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit resigned: Chandigarh Administrator also left the post, sent a letter to the President, there was tension with Bhagwant Mann.

Punjab Governor Resignation: Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit resigned from the post on Saturday citing personal reasons. He has sent a resignation letter to President Draupadi Murmu. In which he wrote that due to personal reasons and some other commitments, I tender my resignation from the post of Governor of Punjab and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh. Please accept it.

Banwarilal Purohit had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi a day earlier on Friday. After this the Governor resigned. Purohit was made the Governor of Punjab on 21 August 2021. He took charge on September 1, 2021. He remained Governor for 2 years, 5 months and 2 days.

There was a war of words going on between the Governor and the Governor for a long time.
For the last few months, there was tension between Governor Banwari Lal Purohit and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on various issues. In August last year, Banwarilal Purohit had sent a strongly worded letter to the CM, warning him that if a reply was not received, he would recommend President’s rule.

Recently Governor Purohit again reiterated that he was not getting any response from him on his previous letters, and warned him that he may send a report to the President on the failure of the constitutional machinery. Later Bhagwant Mann replied. In which it is written that the Governor has threatened the peace loving people of the state and the law and order is completely under control. Most of the letters sent by the Governor have been replied to.

In October 2023, the Governor had sought a report from Bhagwant Mann regarding illegal mining in Tarn Taran. In the letter he also mentioned the allegations of an MLA about corruption in the police, involvement of a close relative of the MLA in illegal mining and the suspension of police officers and subsequent transfer of SSP Tarn Taran.
