Chandigarh Mayor Election Dispute: Chandigarh Mayor Election dispute reaches Supreme Court, AAP-Congress protest against BJP continues

The dispute over Chandigarh mayor election has reached the Supreme Court. Aam Aadmi Party councilor Kuldeep Kumar has approached the Supreme Court after the Punjab Haryana High Court refused to immediately stay the results of the mayor election. The Special Leave Petition (SLP) filed on his behalf has argued that the High Court has erred in not granting any interim relief to the petitioner in the form of staying the results of the election for the post of Mayor or directing the preservation of election records. . On the other hand, workers of Aam Aadmi Party and Congress, dissatisfied with the results of the Mayor elections, are still protesting on the streets.

‘Also challenge the order of Punjab Haryana High Court’

Congress-AAP’s joint candidate for mayor, Kuldeep Kumar, got only 12 votes, while BJP’s Manoj Sonkar got 16 votes. There were eight votes which were declared invalid due to mistakes. AAP and Congress allege that BJP has carried out rigging with the help of the presiding officer. An application was filed in the Punjab Haryana High Court regarding the election results. During the hearing on Wednesday itself, the High Court had issued a notice to the Chandigarh administration to file its reply. Also, stay was refused.

Aam Aadmi Party wants that since the election was won unfairly, there should be an immediate stay. This did not happen, hence an approach has been taken to the Supreme Court. In the special leave petition filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of Councilor Kuldeep Kumar, it has been argued that the Punjab Haryana High Court did not stay the results of the election for the post of Mayor nor did it direct the preservation of election records, which is wrong.
