The accused wanted to avoid going to jail again

Accused Rajat Saini, after brutally killing innocent Aman Dangi, burnt his face as well so that the deceased could not be identified. The accused wanted to avoid going to jail by proving himself dead. The accused had also left fake notes of Rs 500, 500 at the spot. The accused told the police in his memorandum that he was sent to Gwalior jail after being sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 by a court in Radyogarh for kidnapping a child. He came out on parole from Gwalior jail. To avoid going back to jail after the parole was over, he had brutally killed Aman Dangi, a young man who looked like him, to pretend that he was dead. Police Station Khajuri Road Bhopal registered a case against the accused under various sections and presented the challan in the district court on October 11, 2022, after deliberations. Evidence in the case began in the district court and on May 4, the judge had reserved judgment holding the accused guilty under the Indian Penal Code. Judge Dr. Dharmendra Kumar Tada has mentioned in his judgment that the accused has staged his own death by killing an innocent person to avoid jail and punishment. Committing murder even after life imprisonment undermines the credibility of the criminal justice system and demoralises criminals. The purpose of punishment is also that the victim as well as the society should be satisfied that justice has been done.
