When the dam started being built, the MP government challenged it in the court.
Let us tell you that there was a dispute between Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan regarding construction of dam and distribution of water for ERCP. The Rajasthan government argued that the dam was being built as per the agreement made in 2005. If the submergence area of the dam and barrage under the project does not fall within the boundary of another state, then in such cases the consent of the state is not necessary. Madhya Pradesh government did not give NOC for ERCP. The Rajasthan government decided to complete the ERCP at its own expense.
