Justice was to be met in ninety days, but years have to be spent, state and district consumer commissions are not able to help

Bhopal, Consumers in MP should have got justice within 90 days after problems, but in many cases people have to go round the commission for justice even after 10 years. State and district consumer forums were given commission status in MP. Under this Act, the complaints filed in the State and District Consumer Commissions should have been resolved within a maximum of 90 days, but even two and a half years after the enactment of the new Act, the cases stuck for years are not being resolved. Even in the new cases that are coming up, consumers are getting justice after a long time. The cases which have come after 2020 are also stuck for a long time.

Hearing of cases up to 10 crores

At present, cases up to Rs 1 crore are heard in the District Commissions and up to Rs 10 crore in the State Consumer Commission. At present, more than 50 thousand cases are pending in the State and District Consumer Commissions, even after that people are reaching with 60 to 70 cases every month, but due to delayed hearing, consumers have to wait for a long time. Many of these cases can be resolved by the commission through mediation, but due to the vacant posts of the chairman and members in the commission, the resolution is getting delayed.

You can complain like this

Presently complaining to the commission has become very easy. Consumers can complain to the commission in case of deficiency in service or if they are cheated. Online complaints can also be made on the website of the Commission. A copy of the payment receipt and agreement is required during the complaint. Consumers can also lodge complaints online on the Commission’s website. According to the new rules, those found guilty of deficiency in service, cheating or falsely advertising a commodity can be fined Rs 10 lakh and imprisoned for two years for the first time. If caught then, there can be a fine of Rs 50 lakh and a sentence of up to five years.

There will also be complaints about goods bought from other cities

Apart from this, in the new rules, if a consumer comes to know of a discrepancy after purchasing goods from another state or city, then the consumer can file a petition in his city as well. Even if there is a problem in online shopping, you can file a petition from your city itself. No court fee will be charged in cases up to five lakhs.
