Hamidia Hospital News: Children suffering from cataract will not have to wait for intraocular lens.

Bhopal. The number of children suffering from congenital and early age cataract is increasing rapidly. Intraocular lens is necessary for its treatment. In Hamidia, these lenses for adults are easily available in government supplies, but it is very difficult to get lenses of the same size and number for children’s eyes. Keeping this in view, the Eye Department has signed an MoU with an NGO named Jeev Foundation. It will deliver lenses to children in one day.

Lenses will be fitted free of charge

The price of these lenses in the market is Rs 15 to 60 thousand. This American organization has come forward for this and will provide free lenses to patients up to 21 years of age. Besides, these lenses will also be fitted free of cost by Hamidia Hospital.

There will be 2 to 3 such operations every day

According to Dr. SS Kubre, Assistant Professor of Eye Department, surgery of 15 to 20 such children is done every month in the hospital. If patients up to 21 years of age are also included then this number is around 35 to 40. There is a possibility of more patients increasing after this MOU. In view of this, the HOD of the department has instructed the doctors to make adequate preparations.

children will benefit

Under the MOU, the NGO will provide lenses free of cost to children up to 21 years of age. Also, Hamidia Hospital will bear the expenses of the operation. This facility will be very beneficial for children.
