Chandigarh. A major event called Gurugram Marathon will be held in Cyber City on February 25. More than 20,000 runners will take part in this event in various categories. Haryana Chief Minister Shri Manohar Lal will felicitate the winners as the chief guest of the Gurugram Marathon. DC Nishant Kumar Yadav, while addressing the press conference on Monday, said that the Gurugram Marathon will also be an annual Cyber City event on the lines of such events organized in major cities of the country like Delhi and Mumbai . More than three and a half thousand professional runners have registered to take part in the Gurugram Marathon on Gurugrammarathon.com.
The marathon is organized in four categories
DC Nishant Kumar Yadav said that the entire event has been divided into four categories and the entry time for the entire marathon of 42.2 kilometers will be 4 am. This marathon will be flagged off at 4:30 a.m. Citizens aged 18 and over can take part. In the same order, a half marathon of 21.1 in the second category will be organized at 6:30 a.m. Citizens aged 14 and over can take part in this category, in which the reporting time is set at 6 a.m. He informed that in the third category of the event, a 10-kilometer marathon will be organized starting at 7:30 am. The reporting time was set at 6:30 a.m. and citizens over the age of 12 can take part. In the last and fourth category, a fun run of 5 kilometers will be organized, with registration time at 7:30 a.m. and inaugurated by the chief guest at 8:30 a.m. The closing time is set at 10 a.m. in all categories of the event.
The winners of various categories are honored with cash prizes.
The deputy commissioner said that in the first category of the event i.e. full marathon, the first winner will get a cash prize of Rs 100,000, the second winner will get Rs 1,000 and the third place winner will get a cash prize of Rs 75,000. Similarly, in the half marathon, the first winner will get a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, the second winner will get Rs 75,000 and the third winner will get a cash prize of Rs 50,000. In the last category i.e. 10 kilometer run, the first winner will get Rs 50,000 and the second winner will get Rs 30,000. And the third place winner will get a cash prize of Rs 20,000. Additionally, in the master category, the winner of the 50+ age group will receive a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and in the other category, the oldest and youngest runners will also receive a cash prize of Rs 5,000. He said winners who complete the race in all categories would also receive medals.
Before the marathon, there will be an exhibition at Laser Valley Park on the 22nd and 23rd.
DC announced that the exhibition will take place at Leisure Valley Park two days before the main event, on February 22nd and 23rd. In which stands around sports and fitness are set up. In addition, running equipment will be made available on the portal to runners applying for the marathon in the full marathon, half marathon and 10 kilometer categories. This set includes a bag, a runner’s t-shirt and a start number (sticker on the t-shirt) with an electronic chip. He said that with this chip-equipped bib, runners can calculate their actual running time and also download their event photos after the event using their electronic bib number.
There will be live performances by national-level artists
DC said that this will be the first major event of its kind in Gurugram where national level artistes will give their live performances to create enthusiasm and excitement among the runners coming for the marathon. He said that apart from the main venue, live performances will also be organized on small stages at designated locations along the entire marathon route to encourage runners.
These regulations are made on the marathon route
DC said that for the convenience of runners, medical stations will be constructed every two kilometers along the marathon route. In addition to these stations, facilities such as glucose, energy drinks and portable toilets are also provided there. He said 300 volunteers would be deployed throughout the route to ensure that runners do not face any inconvenience on the marathon route. Police personnel will also be deployed every 150 to 200 meters. DC said that to ensure that Gurugram district fully participates in the event, promotional runs will be organized in the corporate area including all block levels. This event will also encourage 11th and 9th class children from all universities, government and non-government schools in Gurugram to participate.
How to register for the marathon
Interested citizens can register at Gurugrammarathon.com. DIPRO Bijendra Kumar said that the applicant has to register with his mobile number and email ID on which he will receive OTP. After that, he has to enter his personal details and other information. He informed that the applicant has to pay Rs 250, Rs 200 and Rs 100 as registration amount for other categories of the event except the Fun Run category.
