Suddenly the prison perimeter wall stirred after the woman was shot.

Then, given the seriousness of the matter, SP Jashnadeep Singh Randhawa had formed a special investigative team led by DSP Ramesh Kumar. It included the team of Manager Police Station Baldev Nagar, Inspector CIA-​1, Incharge Cyber ​​​​​​Cell and draftsman. In this regard, a case under Sections 285, 338 of the IPC was also registered at the Baldev Nagar Police Station. Interior Minister Anil Vij, DGP prison Akil Mohammad and IG Shivas Kaviraj had also inspected the site to investigate the matter themselves.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that this bullet came from an AK-47 rifle. The bullet had come out of the same rifle itself. The site was inspected by the crime scene and military service expert team. CCTV camera footage was collected from 85 cameras installed in the prison. The crime scene was recreated by including the doctor who removed the bullet from the woman’s leg and the X-ray report in the investigation. During the investigation, the location of the fire was determined using the equation of direction of fire, bullet speed, bullet distance and bullet movement. After an inspection from all sides and an expert opinion, the area around it was inspected.

After examination by all angles and experts, it was determined that this bullet had come from about a mile and a half. After determining the distance, the area where the shot took place on January 18, 2023 was identified. During the investigation, it became known that target practice was being conducted at the Ambala Air Force Station firing range that day. 4180 rounds were fired at the range between about 9am and 1pm. The SP said the bullet hit a female prisoner in prison after she deviated from the target. This bullet is called Awara Goli in Hindi and Stray Bullet in English. Such shootings have also come to the fore before. In February 2023, a bullet fired from the Panchkula ITBP firing range hit the Derabassi factory. Upon investigation, it was determined that about 13 bullets were found in the walls of the factory. Similarly, a person was hit by a stray bullet from a shooting range here in Babyal in 2005, while a 5-year-old child was injured by a stray bullet in Poodu Kotai in Tamil Nadu. Similarly, in Turusooram, Tamil Nadu, someone was hit by a stray bullet after moving 1.5 km from the CISF firing range.
