Sonipat: 20 years in prison for raping a teenager

Sonipat: The court found the accused guilty of raping a teenager after he seduced her and took her to a hotel. The Additional District and Session Court, Judge Suruchi Atreja Singh, sentenced the convict to 20 years in prison. The court also imposed a fine of 50,000 rupees on the convict. In the event of non-payment of the amount of the fine, the convicted person must expect an additional penalty. Ordered to pay the fine to the victim.

A woman from Sonipat town said her 17-year-old daughter was raped by Sahil, a resident of Rohtak village, in April 2022. The teenager had told her mother that the young man named Sahil had opened her father’s club account. After that, he started dating her outside. Sahil informed him that on April 6, 2022 he will have his 12th grade homework. He had talked about helping him copy his work. She then went to his center to copy his work as a friendship. After receiving the newspaper from there, Sahil took him to a hotel on Gannaur GT Road on the pretext of taking him away. There he said that he would sit and talk for some time. After having dinner in the hotel room, Sahil told her that he would spend the night here.

He said he wants to marry her. When she refused, the defendant violently raped her. He also threatened to defame him if he told anyone. Due to local law, she remained silent. At night, his daughter informed him of the facts, whereupon a report was made to the police on April 12, 2022 in accordance with 6 POCSO Acts. During the course of the case, the police arrested the accused. He was brought before the court and sent to prison. After the hearing in the case, ASJ Suruchi Atreja Singh sentenced the accused. The court has now sentenced the convict to 20 years imprisonment under Section 6 POCSO Act. A fine of 50,000 rupees was also imposed. The fine was ordered to be paid to the victim. Failure to pay the fine could result in an additional one year’s imprisonment.
