Sonipat: 20 years imprisonment for the person guilty of raping a minor

Sonipat: Additional district and sessions judge Suruchi Atreja Singh declared the accused guilty after hearing the case of rape of a 13-year-old minor. The court sentenced the perpetrator to 20 years in prison and a fine of 60,000 rupees. It was ordered to pay Rs 50,000 of the fine to the victim. In case of non-payment of the fine, the defendant will face an additional penalty.

The youth, who originally lived in UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri district, had informed the Kundli police station on January 12 that his family was living on rent in the Kundli police station area. His family works in a factory. The family members went to work at the factory on January 11th. His 13-year-old sister was home alone. Paras, a resident of Talauli village in Hardoi district of Uttar Pradesh, who was living on rent in his area, seduced his sister and took her to his room. The accused raped his sister. When he returned in the evening, his sister was crying. When he and his mother asked him, he informed him about the matter. He then complained to the police. Police registered a case of rape and menace in the case. The defendant was later arrested.

During the hearing of the case, ASJ Suruchi Atreja Singh declared accused Paras guilty. The court sentenced the perpetrator to 20 years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 50,000 in four cases under the POCSO Act and seven years’ imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 in threatening cases. It was ordered to pay Rs 50,000 of the fine to the victim. If he fails to pay the fine, he could face an additional prison sentence of one and a half years.
