Sirsa: The builders held a sit-in at the municipal office on Monday to protest the municipal council’s commissioning. The contractors claim that city council officials charge up to 42 percent commission. Contractors Vijay Jhunthara, Dalip, Ajit Bhadu, Deepak Kumar, Pawan Kumar and others held a sit-in at the council office and raised slogans.

Contractor Vijay Jhunthara, who revealed rampant commissionism in the department, said it has become difficult to work honestly in the local council. Up to 42 percent commission is demanded from the NAP officers, how is the quality work supposed to be done in such a situation? Upon request, the contractor will be declared a thief. The contractor invests the capital and then tries to work according to government instructions. But the officials only force him to do wrong things. Commission used to be asked after work was done, but now commission is sought before work is done.

He said that recently 9 tenders were suspended by City Council. Contractors were charged a commission of Rs 16,000 for allocating bids, as they did not pay the commission they gave orders to their preferred contractors at a higher rate. He expressed his fear and said that these days the officials have been calling their own people from outside who are interfering with their work. They point out shortcomings in the work and talk about complaints. Later demands money. The appointment by the city council should be stopped.
